Warning to Parents: Children’s Havaianas being Recalled in the Philippines

Havaianas, an expensive but very popular line of flip-flops, issued a recall on the following painted children’s wear:

• Baby Estampas
• Baby Pets
• Kids Apple
• Kids Fairy
• Kids Flores
• Kids Lighthouse
• Kids Monsters
• Kids Surf
• Baby Letrinhas
• Kids Sports
• Kids Candies
• Kids Fun
• Kids Love
• Kids Sereias
• Kids Speed
• Kids Lucky Bug
• Kids Pets
• Kids Rock
• Kids Slim
• Kids Wonder Woman
• Kids Small Flowers
• Kids Tropical w/Kit

The slippers are recalled because of the possibility of lead paint affecting the children who would be wearing them. The flip-flops were made in Brazil.

Parents should take the slippers away from their children as soon as possible and contact the suppliers so that these can be replaced.

Francis Magalona, Goodbye

I grew up to the beat of Francis Magalona. What kid my age does not know his songs? Even though we don’t sound good while we rap, we rap because of him. “Mga Kababayan” is one of his most popular and well-loved songs – if you are a Filipino and don’t know this song then it’s shame on you because the song speaks of our heritage, our values, and our appearance.

He also collaborated with other rappers and singers to produce songs that also becamepopular in their own right. A good one is “Bagsakan” with Parokya ni Edgar and Gloc 9.

He had a long battle with leukemia. There were times when he’d be gone from the regular shows he was in because of the illness. The thought that he’d pass away soon or could have died during those bouts made him work harder on his relationship with his wife and eight children. One can even think that his eldest daughter is just his sister.

Sadly, he passed away at 12:00 noon today. My favorite Noon Time Show, Eat Bulaga, allowed a minute of prayer for the eternal repose of his soul. Kiko, as Francis Magalona is fondly known, is well loved by the public – he will surely be missed a lot. He is one of those figures who never seem to grow old in our eyes {sigh}.
