The Rainy Days are Coming

It is July now. It hasn’t rained much since I could remember. Just when I thought the rainy days won’t come, they came withΒ a vengeance – two typhoons, one coming right after the other exited {sigh}. I am a summer person – that means that I’d rather have lots and lots of sunny days than any rainy day.

In the Old Days…

Well, not really in the very old days but back when I was young – in the 1990s, that is – the weather was predictable. The rainy days will start at the last weeks of May and would stretch until around December. Then the next couple of months will be sunny. That is the reason why I love the first few months of the year more than the second half. Also, when it starts to rain, it was a signal that school days are back and we’d be trudging with our wet uniforms and broken umbrellas to school. πŸ˜€ In those days, I played with earthworms. Ewwww! I hate ’em now πŸ˜€

When the weather was almost predictable, we know when to travel – we don’t do it on June and we try to avoid traveling in the typhoon months of the last quarter of the year.Β My cousins and I wouldΒ plan a summer trip to somewhere nice.

These Days…

Nowadays, predicting the weather has become a difficult task for laypeople. No longer can we say that June will bring the rains – no, it took July to scare the rains in coming. And why am I complaining, anyway? I love summer! Well, I just wanted the regularity that the rains brought when I was younger. Still, I love summer – the less rain, the better. πŸ™‚

The Song…

The Carpenters penned my broken chords into song several years ago. Here it goes:

Talkin’ to myself and feelin’ old

Sometimes I’d like to quit

Nothing ever seems to fit

Hangin’ around

Nothing to do but frown

Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.

What I’ve got they used to call the blues

Nothin’ is really wrong

Feelin’ like I don’t belong

Walkin’ around

Some kind of lonely clown

Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.

Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you

Nice to know somebody loves me

Funny but it seems that it’s the only thing to do

Run and find the one who loves me.

What I feel has come and gone before

No need to talk it out

We know what it’s all about

Hangin’ around

Nothing to do but frown

Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down.

A Domesticated Summer Day

ironingI haven’t realized how busy I am with work and with enjoying summer until my hubby proudly told me last night, when I got home from work, that he ironed some of our clothes! A lot of you may say that it is nothing new but just think that my hubby is a military man πŸ˜€ Just imagining that he was bent on ironing some of the clothes – including the ones I use in the office – made me feel proud of him and thankful that he was thoughtful enough to do so. Oh, many may lambast me for being a carefree wife, that I should iron our clothes and all πŸ™‚ I don’t really care. I am just feeling lucky that my husband is thoughtful enough to do that for me πŸ™‚ And no, he was not mad at me for not ironing πŸ˜€ he was plain proud that he was able to iron without being told – sounds like a child, yes? Well, lucky me, either way.

Well, since I have no assignments today and work is still at 2 PM, I decided to iron what was left of the ones that he didn’t iron. No, not a guilty person’s way of doing things πŸ˜€ but just being wifey after the thoughtful display from my hubby πŸ™‚

The room just had to be cleaned first, the kitchen followed, then the clothes. Whew! What a day, what a summer day, what a domesticated summer day. πŸ˜€

4 Days is a Very Long Weekend (latest update: Saturday)

“4 days is a very long weekend” is grammatically incorrect, yes! However, this is the term that closely describes the long stretch of weekend that we are in for. Wow! For the first time in weeks I am really going to have several days of rest and recreation. Oh, we are supposed to spend those days in celebration of the Holy Week but I had never really been very religious. πŸ™‚

So what do I do with all the time I am granted for R&R? The most obvious answer is: R&R πŸ˜€ So, I vowed to wake up late – at 10AM or 11AM. Other plans include:

  1. Wake up at 10AM.
  2. Work on some projects for Maree.
  3. Go to my cousins’ house for bonding after finishing the projects.
  4. Watch a movie.
  5. Sleep.

The electric company has plans of its own – brown outs for several hours, power back, the brown out again! That means that I have to work double time on the projects – which will probably be passed later than the deadline – and say goodbye to activities #3 and #4. {major double sigh}

It is 10:30PM. I’ve just sent the assignments due at 5:00PM {sigh}. I wish I could live in a place where brown outs are not a problem at all (the power stabilized at 6PM!). Thankfully, I was at least able to deliver within the day {sigh}. Sadly, as I had predicted earlier, I was not able to do activities #3 and #4 – but at least I earned about 4 days worth of salary from my real job within one day of work πŸ˜€ Thanks, Maree!

  1. Wake up at 10AM.
  2. Go to Sibulan Golf Club something for a whole day of swimming. (tentative schedule)
  3. Girls’ bonding with my cousins.
  4. Watch a movie at home.
  5. Sleep.

I woke up at 7AM – refreshed. I made some candles the whole morning and took out my old cross stitch πŸ˜€ Then I’m going to church this afternoon at 2PM. Swimming at Sibulan was postponed tomorrow. πŸ˜€ Yahoo!

To Officially Kick-Off Summer

It’s March – oh, end of March. If this month sets the theme for summer, then, we are in for a long, hot, and lovely one πŸ˜€ Brace yourselves, don your swimsuits, and let’s have fun!

I LOVE summers! For a person who’d grown up with chocolate-colored skin, I am supposed to hate summer because it makes my chocolate skin darker – but like Jaymez fondly says, “Don’t care!” πŸ˜€ Summer appeals a lot to me because I was brought up in a family who loves to go to the beach every opportunity we could. My earliest memories of the beach were the summers when my father would bring us all to Silliman Beach in the morning, leave us siblings and our mother for work, come back with fish which we roast for lunch, get back to work, then collects us at 4 PM. All summer we would be dark chocolates but we LOVE it. Well, I miss those summer days.

Also, back when I was still in college, Bobby, me, and our friends would spend summers at the beach so that we had pictures of us so very dark that we perfectly match the dark bamboo sala set at their house πŸ˜€

And since I have never cared about how people see me, I indulge myself with summer and don’t care about making my chocolate skin darker.

So, what’s in for summer this year? To kick-off summer, I had a hair cut teeeehhheeeeheeee I’m now sporting a semi-short hair, courtesy of the beautiful salon near Hypermart called Marquez Beauty Salon or something similar πŸ˜€ I’m not good with names. Anyway, the hair cut actually came after a double outing with my co-workers and my girl cousins.

Okay, to sort that out, the outing with the co-workers came first. This is a long overdue victory party for our team – the Green Geeks – who were the Champions of last year’s sportsfest. It was sad that my friends were also busy with other activities for Sunday – church and family just had to go first, of course. Plus, the activity was sort-of announced just this week so that we didn’t have much time to re-arrange our Sunday schedules – which is the only day that we are free from The Company {sigh}. Lots of nice people are there, of course. Jeffy – aka Alvin # 2 – was there, too. And since he (partially) took over Alvin’s usual place in the barkada, then the party was alright πŸ˜€ However, there really was nothing to do except talk and eat. So, when my cousins called to inform me that they were at JVD, I had no second thoughts to leaving the outing πŸ˜€ I think they must have rented a videoke machine after I left but I’m not sure.

Anyway, I hurried to where my cousins were hanging out – and it turned out to be an all-girls day out. Wow, we had not done this in ages – just me, Sandy, Inday, PitPit, Darly, Divine, Mary Ann, baby Stefi, and the yaya (sorry, I always forget her name). It was still all talk and eat but the food was more delicious πŸ˜€ no lechon here but we had salad, humba, tuyok manok, and lots of chips. mmmmmm delicious. We talked and talked and talked and talked until it was already very late in the afternoon and Bobby was already reminding me that I did not go to church uh-oh. Anyway, I was already very late for church, so, once again, I skipped on church.

After that girls’ bonding, I idly went to town in search of a salon to have my nails cleaned. I remembered seeing a new salon setting up near Hypermart some days ago so I went to investigate. Wow, the prices are really, really low! Php49 each for manicure, pedicure, and haircut. They also have neat little packages that would appeal to every girl’s budget. I just had to get their package of manicure, pedicure, foot spa, hair spa, haircut, and back massage all for Php350! Cool.

That’s how I started my summer. Now, what about my plans for the summer?

  • April 5 ~ me and my friends at work are going Dolphin watching plus swimming at the Sand Bar weeehhee! Hope the weather will be absolutely perfect.
  • April 8 or 9 ~ me and my girl cousins are planning an overnight retreat at the Forest Camp or somewhere cool enough to match the weather.
  • April 26 ~ lunch party at our house to celebrate my birthday and our wedding anniversary πŸ˜€ all friends are welcome to the party.
  • April 27 to some time that week ~ Bobby and I are going somewhere – tentative venues are Boracay, Bohol, Dakak… can someone suggest a good place to go? πŸ˜€
  • May 16 ~ spend my cousin’s birthday at Cebu and experience the sky walk chuva there – don’t know what it’s called πŸ˜€

Plus, we are going to kulit Jeffy into treating us with tuba and butong at their house in San Jose one of these Sundays πŸ˜€ And Mommy Len, too, for a trip to Bacolod – maybe at the end of May.

Wow, summer’s already getting more and more appealing. So, can someone please give me a job with two days of weekends instead of one? So I could savor the flavors of summer? πŸ˜€
